Driven Media occupies an unusual, perhaps unique, position at the intersection of technical research, practical experience and communication.
We specialise in cars, transport, mobility and related public policy issues, taking subjects that can become highly technical and making them understandable, relevant and, where appropriate, entertaining.
The result is neither narrow “rev-head” motoring journalism nor academic research buried in arcane language.
We start with the evidence, but the important question is often:
What does this actually look like when it is working in the real world?
That approach draws on technical analysis, practical experience, active listening and an ability to dig beneath the obvious answers.
Our work has included
- Technical and policy research
- Transport and motoring analysis
- Media commentary
- Podcast and radio interviewing
- Video and social media content
- Speeches and presentations
- Conference and meeting facilitation
- Corporate and strategic planning
- Community consultation
- Translating complex research for general audiences
The objective is not simply to make a fancy presentation or deliver a stern lecture. It is to help people understand the issue, explore the evidence and ask better questions.
Cars Transport Culture
The media and broadcasting side of our work is Cars Transport Culture, including the long-running Overdrive radio program and podcast.
It looks beyond simply reviewing the latest cars to explore the much broader question of how cars and transport affect the way we live.
Topics range from new vehicle technology, EVs and road safety to transport planning, behaviour change, artificial intelligence, mobility research and the occasional excursion into the wonderfully strange corners of motoring culture.

David Brown
David Brown has an honours degree in civil engineering, although he is quick to point out that you would not want him designing a bridge you intended to walk across.
His speciality is traffic engineering and transport planning: not so much how we physically build transport infrastructure, but what transport systems we need, how people use them and how they affect our lives.
David’s career has combined transport, research, business, policy and communications.
He has developed policy, written technical reports and speeches, presented technical papers, produced videos and newsletters, worked in social media, appeared across traditional media and made after-dinner speeches.
He has also managed small, medium and large businesses and was mentored in corporate planning. Combined with his communications background, this led to extensive work facilitating businesses, community meetings, conferences and strategic planning processes.
David was once invited to participate in a think tank on the Future of Transport:
“Not just because of your expertise but because of your ability to think broadly and inspire others to explore together what is plausible, preferred and what needs to be changed in order to get there.”
That remains a useful description of his approach.
From cars and transport to artificial intelligence, behaviour change and emerging technology, David combines historical perspective, data and practical experience.
He is quite prepared to challenge a good anecdote with data, but preferably without destroying a perfectly good conversation in the process.
His hobby has now become an extension of his professional interests: motoring and transport writing and broadcasting. He presents Overdrive: Cars, Transport and Culture and regularly road tests new vehicles.
