You can drive a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution gently; it is easy to potter around the streets. But that’s not why you’d buy it.
| Mitsubishi’s latest Evo is made to go fast and it does so very well. With superb road holding, all-wheel-drive grip, more than enough horse power and a high level of active and passive safety it is arguably the best value-for-money performance packages available. And does it look the part? The green grocer, the butcher, the neighbour and even the representative from a rival car company all stopped to talk about the Lancer Evolution. It’s the car that generated the most public feedback from the widest cross section of the population. Past Evos have looked aggressive. The new model is more stylish. Your attitude to the looks evolves over time. For some, time brings out the details of the design while for others the shape becomes a bit of a pastiche. Surprisingly the manual gearbox is only five speeds. The automatic (which costs an extra $5,000) is a six speed twin clutch arrangement. With a starting price of $59,490 for the manual the Lancer Evolution represents outstanding value for money. |
